Acer has announced an upgraded Swift 5, the SF514-55T version of which we reviewed last April. Now called the SF514-56T, the latest Swift 5 utilises Intel Alder Lake processors in a CNC-machined unibody chassis. However, Acer is yet to confirm which processors it will offer in the Swift 5, which is also the case with the new Swift 3. Based on last year's model, the Swift 5 will feature Alder Lake-U series processors like the Core i5-1235U and Core i7-1265U.
Additionally, the SF514-56T has a 14-inch and 2,560 x 1,600-pixel display, along with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Acer claims that the display has a 92.22% screen-to-body ratio as well, above which it has included a 1080p webcam. Moreover, the Swift 5 will have LPDDR5 RAM and PCIe Gen4 storage. According to Acer, the Swift supports up to 16 GB of dual-channel RAM and 2 TB of storage. Incidentally, Acer's fine print confirms that the Swift 5 features two M.2 2280 slots, both with PCIe Gen 4 support. Apparently, each M.2 2280 slot is only compatible with up to 1 TB drives, though.
Acer adds that the Swift 5 SF514-56T weighs 1.2 kg and is 14.95 mm thick, despite having an aluminium enclosure. Separately, the new Swift 5 has a Windows Hello-compatible fingerprint reader integrated within its power button and Intel Evo verification. Acer rates the SF514-56T for up to 10 hours of battery life too, while a 30-minute charge should yield up to 4 hours of battery. The SF514-56T will launch with the following ports:
- 1x 3.5 mm headphone jack
- 1x HDMI 2.1
- 1x Kensington lock slot
- 2x Thunderbolt 4
- 2x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A
Acer will release the Swift 5 SF514-56T next month in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), starting at €1,799 in the Eurozone. By contrast, the laptop will arrive in China a month later for CNY 9,999; North America will not receive the Swift 5 SF514-56T until June for some reason, where it will retail for US$1,499.
