Acer is now selling its midrange 15.6-inch Aspire 5 laptop for $170 USD off the original launch price of $800. The deal is notable for its respectable specifications relative to the sale price as many models would typically come with slower Intel Core i5 options and/or less RAM than what is offered here.
In our review of the Aspire 5, we praised its excellent Ryzen 7 5700U CPU performance and overall build quality when compared to other inexpensive alternatives like a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 or HP Pavilion. Unfortunately, the IPS display on the Acer is not particularly bright and its colors are only limited to just 57 percent of the sRGB standard. Thus, while overall performance is above average for its price range, the display is more reflective of a budget laptop.
The spacious 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB SSD add a lot of value to the deal especially since RAM is limited to a single SODIMM slot. The integrated Radeon RX Vega 8 GPU in particular gets a sizable boost in performance when jumping from 8 GB to 16 GB. Users can learn more about the Aspire 5 from our full review here.
