The Nitro 7 is part of Acer's entry-level lineup of gaming laptops, but it outgrows its class and positions itself as an excellent all-rounder, with a compact and sturdily crafted metallic construction, a nice matte screen, competent hardware and a thermal implementation to match. This is, nonetheless, pretty much a Nitro 5 in a nicer suit, thus whether it's worth the premium Acer ask for it or not, that's something you'll have to decide for yourselves.

Acer was very quick to jump on the budget-premium budget model of laptop marketing. Following Lenovo’s success with the Legion Y530 – Y730 and now the Legion Y540 – Legion Y740, Acer needed to fill the gap. As we mentioned, the Nitro 7 (AN715-51) is a direct successor to the Aspire V Nitro Black Edition, however, it sits somewhere around the Helios 300. We hope that this doesn’t overwhelm the market soon, as right now there is a device for everything and everyone and from almost every company.

Of course, we’ll have to wait for our review units to see how the new hardware actually performs and whether the cooling can keep it in check, as well as whether the audio rises to the hype. My potential concerns still go towards noisy fans and high-case temperatures in long gaming sessions, as well as on audio and the overall panel quality, aspects manufacturers tend to skimp over on budget laptops.

That said, Acer's got plenty of room in its lineup for alternatives. As I said up top, the Nitro 7 is probably the right choice for someone. It's not the most efficient setup, and personally I'd rather spend my money on better performance. But you could be perfectly content with a Nitro 7. For every cut corner, there's a place where the Nitro 7 shines—and often, it's in the areas you'd least expect a budget laptop to do so.

Acer's Nitro 7 is a classic example of how every decision matters when building entry-level gaming laptops. Every component must be second-guessed, every trade-off weighed, because a mere $50 can be the difference between standing out and stalling out. Do you opt for a better screen or more storage space? A better GPU or more RAM? High-end laptops get to have it all, but budget-friendly machines don't have that luxury.

Acer's Nitro 7 impresses on style and features, but its performance trails that of other gaming notebooks with more powerful graphics chips at this price.

The Nitro 7 might not have the Predator branding that we usually find on Acer Gaming Notebooks but its certainly capable in its own right. It has the right amount of oomph to let you game with the hardware that it’s rocking and has the looks that’ll help you transition to more serious aspects of your life.

The Nitro 7 is a very nice addition to Acer's casual gaming laptop lineup. However, since it is positioned as a more premium offering than the Nitro 5, it carries a premium. Prices start at Rs. 84,999, and the fully specced unit that we had carries a retail price tag of Rs. 1,54,999. That's a little too expensive, since you can find laptops with GeForce RTX-series GPUs for around this much. Thankfully, Acer's end-user pricing is a lot more competitive. Looking at the company's own e-store, which was recently launched, this exact variant (AN715-51-76LS) is currently going for Rs. 1,12,999.

Much like the 2020 Nitro 5, this updated 2020 Nitro 7 series is a step-up from the previous generation in terms of build quality, inputs, features, and even performance. However, Acer expectedly charges a premium for the nicer metallic construction here, and that puts it about on par with a similarly specced Predator Helios 300 in the few markets where this Nitro 7 is currently available, which is a far better-rounded product. That's why my attention would primarily go towards the more affordable lower-specced version of this Nitro 7.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Mobile: Mid range dedicated graphics card for laptops based on the desktop GTX 1650 and therefore the Turing architecture (TU117 chip in 12nm FFN) without raytracing and Tensor cores. Available with 896 and 1024 shaders.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Mobile: Mid range dedicated graphics card for laptops based on the desktop GTX 1660 Ti and therefore the Turing architecture without raytracing and Tensor cores. The performance of the Max-P variant should be similar to an older GTX 1070.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile: Mid range to high end laptop graphics card based on the Turing architecture with raytracing features and 1,920 shaders. Compared to the similar named desktop card it offers reduced clock rates.

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
78.25%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
