The reasons to recommend this model are numerous. A decent sum of money will provide you with a very fast machine with a high-quality enclosure, aluminium lid, nice overall design and crazy autonomy in power-saving modes. Simply put, this is an ideal companion for all those who don’t strive to play the latest games, but want a high-quality notebook. The integrated graphics will enable you to play a few rounds of Starcraft or similar nostalgia-inducing games, but don’t even think about Crysis or anything similar. As far as performance in other departments is concerned, this configuration and its latest-gen hardware components will provide you with several years of comfortable work, which is the basic condition when buying a PC like this, after all. The thing that’ll truly make you glad that you’ve bought this notebook (in the case that you do, of course) is that you won’t have to constantly look for a power plug, which has become a rare feat in today’s portable PCs, with the possible exception of netbooks, which TimelineX surpasses multiple times in every way.

Summer Breeze. The Acer Aspire TimelineX series is getting new hardware and a fresh new look. The 5830TG laptop, with a 15.6 inch display, is the spearhead of the new lineup. Thanks to its Nvidia GeForce GT 540M graphics chip, the laptop can also satisfy gamers. Does this mean that Acer has learnt from its mistakes and is ushering in a generation of new, improved notebooks?

Acer’s first generation Timeline notebooks appeared in 2009 heralded as inexpensive thin laptops with long battery lives. Thin, light, good battery life, middle-of-the-road performance, anyone who is taken by the sharp lines of the Acer TimelineX AS5830 could do worse.

We can't promise whether you'll love or loathe the TimelineX series' industrial, color-blocked design, but we'll say this much: this mid-range 15-inch laptop grew on us. We're finicky about our laptops (aren't we all?), and yet we quickly grew comfy with it nonetheless. It might not be the prettiest notebook on the shelf at Best Buy, but the sturdy keyboard and reliable trackpad alone make this a sensible choice.

With its $800 price tag and a combination of beauty and brains, the Acer Aspire TimelineX 5830TG-6402 is a smart buy for any budget. Its powerful processor, switchable graphics, and nearly 10-hour battery life are significant pluses, helping compensate for the absence of features like WiDi 2.0 and wireless broadband. If those features are deal breakers for you, try the Editors' Choice Lenovo IdeaPad V570-1066A9U.

From its strong performance to its robust audio, the Acer Aspire TimelineX 5830TG is a great multimedia laptop that won't break the bank. We just wish this $799 notebook had a better touchpad and larger touchpad buttons. We slightly prefer the HP Pavilion dv6t, which costs $30 less, offers better graphics performance, and has a fingerprint reader. However, if you're looking for speed and powerful audio in a stylish package, the 5830T is well worth the money.

Although the first boot experience is a software melee, the Acer TimelineX 5830TG-6402 is a looker that will cover just about anyone's performance needs. The overall result is top-notch, for less than top dollar. Users who don't game might opt for the $600 5830TG-6862, which is Core i3-based and lacks the Nvidia GPU. Performance enthusiasts, however, get no Core i7 option.

The TimelineX AS5830TG-640 may not be the fastest desktop replacement around, but as a combination of usable size – both of the decent display and well-proportioned keyboard – and portability it’s keenly priced. Acer’s motherlode of bloatware is an early blip, but get past that (with some judicious use of Windows 7's Remove Programs dialog) and you’ve a solid notebook at an affordable price.

The latest model of Acer's small business laptop is a good looking machine, with much of the power you need - and at a very reasonable price for its specification. We liked its looks, and were surprised to find just how light it was. The integrated battery could be an issue, but with more than five hours of battery life, it's not something that should be much of a problem.

The Timeline X 5830T model certainly gets off to a good start with its sleek appearance enhanced by a blue, black and silver colour scheme plus a top that has a downward slope at the rear along with circular hinges. The Timeline X is a smart looking laptop that performs reasonably well.

A mostly solid-feeling body and great battery life make this 15.6in laptop a good choice if you're going to spend a lot of time working between your desk and elsewhere. It doesn't perform well with games thanks to its lowly integrated graphics, but the comfortable keyboard layout and capable Sandy Bridge processor make it a competitive - if not particularly exciting - productivity solution.

This is a decent system from Acer. It compromises on computational welly, but offers more than enough memory to keep things running smoothly. The only people who won’t be wholly enamoured with it are likely to be serious power users - it’s not particularly well-suited to Photoshop or big rendering jobs - and gamers. If you simply want a machine for everyday work or studies, this will fill the role without carving a rut out of your wallet. Look online and you'll pay £100 less than the RRP.

The Acer Aspire Timeline X doesn't have the sort of power that will tear through the latest games titles, but it manages to give a strong performance, especially for multi-tasking, which will certainly appeal to the more casual user. Its blue aluminium shell makes it both sturdy and more attractive than the usual grey or black laptops found in this price range too.

Acer: The company was founded under the name of Multitech in Taiwan in 1976 and renamed to Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors and televisions. Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell also belong to the Group and sell their own laptops.
While Acer still had the third largest global market share in the notebook segment in 2008, it ranked 6th in 2016 with a market share of 6% after they had continuously lost market shares.
There are dozens of Acer laptop reviews per month, the ratings are average (as of 2016). Gateway, which has an own laptop line-up, has also belonged to the Acer Group since 2007.
