This inexpensive laptop can do it all for students or basic office needs with its efficient processor and long battery life. If you do even a bit of graphics editing, however, then the IPS display might disappoint.

The Acer Aspire 14 AI positions itself as a compelling budget-friendly entry into the world of Copilot+ PCs, and it succeeds on that point, delivering decent productivity performance and a valuable array of AI features for less than $1,000. We have a lot to like about the laptop, including the excellent battery life and a surprisingly robust port selection for the cost. But while the Acer Aspire 14 AI's practical build and feature set are commendable, the display is definitely not, with significantly underwhelming color and brightness. Acer's Aspire 14 AI is best suited for general users, students, or office work where top-tier visual fidelity isn't a priority. Creative professionals and media enthusiasts should aim higher.

If you buy the laptop from Costco, you’ll pay $750. That’s not a bad price for a 14-inch laptop with decent productivity performance. It’s not the best-built laptop with the most elegant design, but you don’t expect that for the price. However, the display simply isn’t very good, with narrow and muted colors and low brightness. Given that I’ve seen laptops with OLED displays at this price, that’s not great. And the battery life is disappointing. Ultimately, I think you can get a much better laptop for the same price if you shop around. Spend a couple of hundred dollars more and you’ll be a lot happier.

Yes, it's a great pick among budget laptops. Its performance and battery life exceed what you can expect for the price, and the design is nearly the same as you get with Acer's more expensive Swift models. You're forced to sacrifice display quality in order to hit such a low price, but that's an item that's usually not very high on a budget shopper's priority list. More important is getting a modern CPU that delivers sufficient performance for everyday use that's also efficient to allow for lengthy battery life -- plus a bit of future-proofing with its AI capabilities.

The Acer Aspire 14 AI laptop is ideal for those seeking flagship-grade laptop performance at a modest price for productivity related tasks and general computing. It also offers good battery life and a decent array of ports to cover most use case scenarios. While it has excellent specifications for what you pay for, especially its Intel Core Ultra 7 258V series 2 equipped configuration, the plasticky chassis and middling display further pigeonhole it as a productivity oriented laptop rather than one intended for gaming or content creation.

Acer's Aspire 14 AI is one of the better bang-for-your-buck options available right now. Starting at $699, it offers some of the latest high-performing hardware and a battery that will last multiple days in a very competitive package. If you're looking for a "budget plus" laptop with respectable hardware that opts for a more utilitarian form factor (and approachable price), the Aspire 14 AI is a solid choice. I would suggest opting for the OLED configuration if you're willing to pay for the upgrade, especially if you'll be using it for visually creative work or gaming.

The Acer Aspire 14 AI banks a lot on a compelling price tag. Thankfully, at $699, it has one. It may not be setting any records, but this is clearly a machine that understands utility. The display may not be pretty, but it’s easy to use. The keyboard could use some improvements, but all of Acer’s could and there’s still worse out there. The speakers may not pump up the jams, but they present clear speech. And, even if performance isn’t top notch, the Acer Aspire 14 AI easily plugs along in day-to-day office tasks while slowly draining its battery. There may not be a lot to really love about the Acer Aspire 14 AI, but there’s also very little to get truly frustrated about. Nothing about it is outright terrible. Even the practically colorless display retakes some lost ground by offering a strong anti-glare finish and touchscreen capabilities.

The Acer Aspire 14 AI shines as a budget laptop, hitting an affordable price point for solid Lunar Lake processing speeds, excellent battery life, a satisfying keyboard, and a sturdy chassis. Unfortunately, its display is miserable, and we wouldn't recommend it to anyone who remotely cares about color and brightness. If you want a decent display, the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus 7441 is a tad more expensive at $899 but features a far brighter and more colorful panel. Otherwise, anyone who doesn't particularly mind a poor panel will love the Aspire 14 AI as a budget laptop.

The Aspire 14 AI makes sense as a solid, mid-range laptop, particularly for small to medium-sized businesses. It's well-built and more than speedy enough to handle mainstream productivity apps, while the battery life is simply epic. The 32GB of RAM, good all-around connectivity, and 1GB of SSD storage should future-proof it for the next few years, and it has the NPU and GPU to handle any AI applications coming down the line. Acer is looking at a June release for this model, and pricing isn't available at the time of writing, though it's predicted to come in at under £1000. For that kind of money, the Aspire 14 AI would be great value. Sadly, a couple of factors leave us less enthusiastic. The biggest is the screen and its shortcomings.

The Acer Aspire 14 AI is an excellent laptop that nails the basics at its price point with competent performance, a great OLED screen and marvellous endurance. It has a good set of ports and is well-built. Just look out for its slightly softer-feeling keyboard. The Asus Zenbook A14 might be slightly lighter, but it sacrifices against the Aspire 14 AI with a weaker port selection and worse performance, although it comes with ever-so-slightly longer battery life. In addition, the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus 7441 (2024) lacks the same oomph as the Aspire 14 AI and foregoes an OLED screen for a higher-res IPS one at a similar price point. In some instances, it is horses for courses, but the Acer Aspire 14 AI earns a strong recommendation for being a capable all-rounder that most people can get behind. Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel Arc 130V: An integrated graphics adapter that lower-end Intel Lunar Lake family processors employ. This is a direct successor to the Arc 7 iGPU; DirectX 12 Ultimate is fully supported here and the iGPU also supports hardware-decoding a long list of popular video codecs such as h.266 VVC, h.265 HEVC, h.264 AVC, AV1 and VP9. It is clear the 130V isn't fast enough to run most triple-A 2024 games at 1080p. However, it's still more than good enough for an occasional gaming session Helldivers 2 and Ready or Not run perfectly well at 1080p / Low.
Intel Arc 140V: A pretty fast integrated graphics adapter that higher-end Intel Lunar Lake family processors employ. This is a direct successor to the Arc 8; it can drive three SUHD 4320p monitors simultaneously via HDMI 2.1, eDP 1.5 and DP 2.1. With the 140V, all 2023 and 2024 games are playable at 1080p on low graphics settings.

Core Ultra 5 226V: One of the 2 slowest Lunar Lake processors as of Nov 2024. It features 4 new Skymont E-cores and 4 new Lion Cove P-cores running at up to 3.5 GHz and 4.5 GHz respectively, along with the new Arc 130V iGPU and 16 GB of on-package LPDDR5x-8533 RAM. The 226V's level 3 cache is pretty small as compared to more expensive Ultra 7 2xxV and Ultra 9 2xxV chips at 8 MB vs 12 MB. Its multi-thread performance is very close to the R7 7730U and the R7 7735U, and it eats up to 37 W in short-term loads.
Core Ultra 7 258V: An upper mid-range Lunar Lake family processor. It sports 4 new Skymont E-cores and 4 new Lion Cove P-cores running at up to 3.7 GHz and 4.8 GHz respectively, along with the new Arc 140V iGPU and 32 GB of on-package LPDDR5x-8533 RAM. It essentially matches the Core Ultra 7 165U and Core i7-1360P in multi-thread performance and it eats up to 37 W when under short-term workloads.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
