AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX APU, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 GPU, and a 2K screen with up to 165 Hz support seem likely options for upcoming Asus ROG Strix laptops
A gaming laptop fantasy appears close to reality courtesy of Asus. According to a combination of marketing material published by the company itself and a report from Chinese media site ITHome (via VideoCardz), it seems there will be Cezanne/Ampere ROG Strix laptops coming our way. The thought of a gaming laptop combining Ryzen 5000 with the GeForce RTX 30 Series will be foremost in many gamers’ minds, but then there’s always the issue about a lackluster display. But it appears Asus has dealt with that too.
So what we have is a potential Asus ROG Strix laptop that can be configured with up to a possibly overclockable 8-core Ryzen 9 5900HX APU (which the marketing material erroneously teases as an R9 “GPU”) and up to a GeForce RTX 3080 mobile GPU. On top of that, buyers can also plump for up to 32 GB memory and up to a 1 TB SSD for storage. It’s a total beast, and that’s without even mentioning the display yet.
Often powerful gaming laptops are let down by the screen, and if you are going to offer an enticing Ryzen 5000/GeForce RTX 30 combination you should deliver a good display too. Apparently, the Asus ROG Strix 2021 laptops can be configured with up to a 2K (2560x1440) screen that supports a 165 Hz refresh rate. For those willing to sacrifice on the resolution for a higher refresh rate, there will also be a 1080p @300 Hz option.
With all that power onboard, fitted into either a 15.6-inch or 17.3-inch form, there will need to be an excellent cooling solution, which is reportedly provided by a liquid cooling system. No prices have been leaked yet, but it’s expected Asus will possibly fill in the blanks at a launch event taking place on January 12 during CES 2021 (book a ticket here).
Tune in January 12 for an exclusive sneak peek at the next generation of ROG Gear & Laptops, and get ready to experience ROG like never before!
