Samsung's successor to the Galaxy S21 Ultra has been freshly repainted as the Galaxy S22 Note in a new leak. By any name, it is expected to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 rather than the OEM's own Exynos 2200 SoC in certain markets such as the US. This variant may have just appeared on Geekbench 5, thereby potentially offering an insight into its power and performance.
On the other hand, should this device really be a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra/Note, there are some inconsistencies between it and other leaks, not to mention the history of the S series.
The alleged 2022 flagship is listed on Geekbench 5 as the SM-S908U, whereas the S21 Ultra is the SM-G998. Then again, the S22+ might be the SM-S906 on the same benchmark.
Therefore, should this be a genuine upcoming phone, Samsung has made a considerable leak with its model number scheme. In addition, although the SM-S908U's listing contains the code-name taro, seemingly authentically linked to the 8 Gen 1, it has only 8GB of RAM.
By contrast, the S22 line's top-end variant is tipped to start at 12GB of RAM. On the other hand, its single- and multi-core scores are consistent with other results reportedly generated by the Gen 1. Then again, it may be well into 2022 before these rumors are confirmed or denied.
