A Pac-Man themed OnePlus Nord 2 may be in the offing, and with a Snapdragon 778G SoC
OnePlus may have just released the OnePlus 9RT, but it seems that the company is already preparing to release another smartphone. According to Max Jambor, OnePlus plans to release the Nord 2 Pac-Man edition, seemingly in collaboration with Bandai Namco Entertainment.
The Nord 2 arrived in July with a 90 Hz display and a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset. The device also has a 4,500 mAh battery and supports OnePlus Warp Charge 65, for reference. According to Oxygen Updater, OnePlus has updated OxygenOS with numerous Pac-Man references, including one linked to Warp Charge. Reputedly, using Warp Charge for 256 minutes will unlock a sticker in the Gallery app; the number 256 relates to the Pac-Man 256 app, which OnePlus will also pre-install on its Pac-Man themed handset.
However, Oxygen Updater notes that this Pac-Man model may not be in the same vein as OnePlus' McLaren handsets were. While the latter shared codenames with their parent models, the Nord 2 Pac-Man has a unique 'pacman' codename. Additionally, the website asserts that 'pacman' contains a string for a Snapdragon 778G SoC:
<string name="device_info_show_CPU_qualcomm_snapdragon_778">"Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 778G Octa-core"</string>
Hence, the Nord 2 Pac-Man edition may be more than a re-branded Nord 2. The Dimensity 1200 outperformed the Snapdragon 778G in the Galaxy A52s, though. Unfortunately, it is unclear when OnePlus will announce the Pac-Man edition, nor where it will be available.
