The Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 (SD625) is a mid-range octa-core SoC with eight ARM Cortex-A53 cpu cores at up to 2 GHz, an Adreno 506 GPU, a DDR3L-1866 memory controller and a X9 LTE (Cat 7, 4G+, 300 Mbps down, 150 Mbps up) modem. Furthermore, the chip supports 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1. It is manufactured in 14nm FinFet. The processor performance should be similar to a HiSilicon Kirin 650, which also offers 8 Cortex A53 cores at up to 2 GHz. However, due to the modern manufacturing process, power consumption and throttling should be better with the Snapdragon 625.
The MediaTek MT8165 is a 64-bit ARM-based SoC for Android devices launched in 2014. The quad-core processor is manufactured in 28 nm and based on the Cortex-A53 architecture. In addition to the CPU core, it integrates an ARM Mali-760 MP2 GPU and a LPDDR3 memory controller (32-bit, 800 MHz, 6.4 GB/s).
Processor
The Cortex-A53 is the successor to the popular Cortex-A7 design. In addition to the jump from 32-bit to 64-bit architecture (ARMv8 ISA) to address more than 4 GB of memory, the new design offers better branch prediction and higher performance-to-power ratio that rivals the Cortex-A9. The four cores of the MT8165 are clocked at up to 1.5 GHz and sits roughly in between the Qualcomm Snapdragon 610 (4x Cortex-A53 at 1.7 GHz) and Snapdragon 410 (4x Cortex-A53 at 1.2 to 1.4 GHz). The power-efficient processor is fit for common tasks like browsing and running light applications.
Graphics
The integrated dual-core Mali-T760 MP2 is a mid-range GPU clocked at up to 500 MHz. Most Android games will run at acceptable frame rates on medium resolutions and quality.
The ARM-based Mediatek MT6753 SoC (System on a Chip) is a mid-range mobile processor announced in mid 2015 for smartphones and tablets (mostly Android based). It integrates 8 ARM Cortex-A53 cores consisting of 4 high-performance cores clocked at up to 1.5 GHz plus 4 low-power cores. Furthermore, the SoC integrates a Cat. 4 LTE radio and an ARM Mali-T720 MP4 GPU clocked at 600 MHz with 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Cortex-A53 is the successor to the Cortex-A7 and introduces 64-Bit support (ARMv8-ISA). Its performance-per-Watt is significantly higher and is even slightly ahead of the old Cortex-A9. If utilizing all 8 of its cores, the Cortex-A53 can rival competing mobile processes in the high-end class range. However, no practical software has been specifically coded to use all 8 cores at such high performance levels.
The MT6753 is manufactured in 28nm and should be suited for smaller smartphones.
