The 49-inch Samsung Odyssey OLED G95SC ultrawide gaming monitor is currently 40% off in BestBuy's counter to the upcoming Amazon Black Friday sale. The colossal Samsung OLED gaming monitor has a dual-QHD resolution of 5120 × 1440 pixels, along with a 240 Hz refresh rate and basically every type of mainstream variable refresh rate tech available.

Samsung's 49-inch, 32:9 Odyssey OLED gaming monitor made a splash when it launched, thanks to its almost ridiculous proportions and impressive spec sheet. The massive gaming monitors have always been prohibitively expensive, though, usually clocking in at around the $1,800 mark. Now, thanks to a Best Buy sale, though, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G95SC is discounted by 40%, at $1,078.99.

While the sale price of the Odyssey OLED G9 49 is still a pretty penny, the display justifies its premium price with a premium feature set. For starters, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G95SC has a 240 Hz refresh rate and claims 0.2 ms response times, thanks to its OLED panel. It is also stacked with gamer-focussed features, like variable refresh rate via AMD FreeSync, Nvidia G-Sync, and HDMI Forum VRR, as well as some nifty picture-in-picture and picture-by picture modes to better make use of the expansive 32:9 aspect ratio.

The Odyssey G9 is no slouch when it comes to non-gaming workloads, either, and it has the chops for more than a little colour-sensitive creative work. In an in-depth technical review, RTings found that the Samsung Odyssey G95SC had 99.9% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space and 95.8% coverage of the Adobe RGB colour space. Although Delta-E values were a little higher than ideal, at 2.45, the Odyssey OLED G9 will still be plenty accurate for most entry-level or mid-range colour-critical work — especially considering it is a gaming monitor, after all. Brightness results were also quite acceptable, at 465 nits in HDR mode in 10% ADL tests, while 50% and 100% window HDR brightness levels came in at 309 and 263 nits, respectively. These numbers are far from record-breaking, but given the unmatched contrast of OLED displays and the substantial size of the G95SC, even this middling brightness result should be enough for most people and most tasks.

To connect to a computer or laptop, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G95SC offers HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, and micro HDMI 2.1. There's also a USB hub with three USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C ports (one upstream and two downstream), for connecting peripherals and other USB devices.

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G95SC is on sale at the discounted $1,078.99 price at both Best Buy and Samsung US directly.
