Apple will apparently follow Samsung and some other OEMs into triple-camera territory this year. The extra module found in the resulting iPhones may be depth-sensing modules of some kind. However, this possibility has resulted in renders suggesting that the Cupertino giant may take Huawei's design cues in designing its expanded imaging component.
In other words, these cameras may be arranged in a square on the backs of the iPhones in question. Many renders also suggest the theory that the module as a whole may be raised above the main rear panel. It will also be confined to one corner of this surface, as with many Apple mobile devices of the past. This results in a potentially different esthetic impact compared to that of the Huawei Mate 20 series, in which the square cameras are centrally placed.
In its most recent post, the Apple rumor blog MacOtakara asserts that these 'square' renders are to be a reality for the 2019 generation of iPhones. It has made these claims based on tips from a "Chinese Supplier". The post also states that the new devices' form factors will not vary in their dimensions from those set out in the iPhone XS, XS Max or XR otherwise.
In fact, it seems they will differ in terms of their chipsets - the newer models will probably have access to the A13 Bionic SoC - and very little else. However, the new camera arrangement will necessitate a new case line-up - even the next-gen XR is apparently in line for an extra main camera this year.
