ZTE has announced a new foray into the Android tablet market with the new Axon Pad. The device is now officially slated to launch later in April 2023, with a flat-edged metallic unibody design marked out with a large, single-lens rear camera hump. It is touted as capable of forming an ecosystem between itself and smartphones such as those of the flagship Axon 50 series.

ZTE has confirmed that it has a new tablet ready to go - however, it is not the innovative Nubia Pad, but rather more of a conventional, 2D-display alternative. The upcoming Pad is now officially a member of the Axon line, even though it apparently lacks a cutting-edge under-display (or UDC) selfie camera.

This front-facing camera is set into the Axon Pad's thin bezel instead, and is, at least, in the up-to-date landscape orientation. ZTE asserts that it will make a "stunning debut" with a build of MyOS optimized for its form-factor, and also for "full-scenario smart life 2.0" functions that support "intelligent linkage" between it and other first-party devices.

Accordingly, it may be capable of forming cross-device ecosystems with other new devices such as the 40 Ultra or its successor on its launch. The Axon Pad is set to be unleashed as a new rival for the OPPO Pad 2 or Xiaomi Pad 5 series during the OEM's next major April 12, 2023 product event.
