Xiaomi Smart Band 8 and Watch S2 move closer to global releases
It appears that Xiaomi is preparing to offer the Watch S2 and Smart Band 8 globally. While Xiaomi has not commented on the pair's release yet, the company has certified both with various regulatory bodies across the Middle East and Southeast Asia. For reference, Xiaomi already sells the Watch S2 in China, where it is available in two sizes and various colourways. Please see our launch article for more details.
Little is known about the Smart Band 8 or Band 8 for now, other than Xiaomi has allegedly started mass-producing the fitness tracker. Seemingly, Xiaomi has assigned the model number 'M2239B1' to the Smart Band 8, with 'M2207W1' serving as the model number for the Watch S2. At the time of writing, Xiaomi has certified the pair with the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM), as well as the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the National Radio Research Agency (NRRA) in South Korea.
Unfortunately, none of the regulatory bodies offer any specifications for the Smart Band 8. However, the appearance of it and the Watch S2 in Malaysia, South Korea and the UAE confirm that Xiaomi plans to offer both wearables outside China. It remains to be seen when either will be available in Africa, Europe, the Middle East or the rest of Asia, though. Currently, Xiaomi is only expected to bring the Watch S1 Pro to MWC 2023 in Barcelona, along with the Xiaomi 13 series and the Xiaomi Buds 4. If past Xiaomi Smart Band releases are anything to go by, Xiaomi will wait until mid-spring before launching the Smart Band 8 globally.
