The Xiaomi Redmi Pad Pro 5G should be on the radar of those who want to watch films or series on a sufficiently large screen at home, who don't want to carry a laptop with them when traveling but still need the screen space for productivity, or who want to work with several open screen windows at the same time. And if you don't want to spend too much money on a large tablet, then the Redmi Pad Pro 5G is just right: it is currently available from $267 at Amazon, but only with WiFi.
Fundamentally, the differences are not so great: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC is installed in both the WiFi and 5G models and all other specifications are identical. However, the 5G model can be equipped with two nano-SIM cards for dual-SIM operation and also offers satellite positioning, which is not available on the WiFi model.
We took a closer look at the 5G model in our detailed review and found that the large tablet has more to offer than just a large screen: the WiFi is fast enough to make full use of a gigabit internet connection and the 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage can be expanded via the microSD port.
The Redmi Pad Pro 5G also offers a metal chassis, which is supplemented by a plastic strip in the upper area to ensure Wi-Fi and 5G reception. However, this metal chassis is not entirely convincing, as it is a little too flexible due to its size. Also annoying is the fact that Xiaomi only promises 3 years of updates for HyperOS and only one OS update is guaranteed. Sustainability is also rather poor in other respects: spare parts or repair instructions cannot be found, and Xiaomi itself states that if repairs are too expensive, the customer will be offered a discounted replacement device instead.
However, the good runtimes, compatibility with a stylus and the overall smooth system are definitely strong points that speak in favor of the mid-range tablet. In our detailed review, we summarize all the arguments for and against the Xiaomi Redmi Pad Pro 5G.
