Xiaomi Mi EBook Reader Pro appears in promo image ahead of imminent launch with 1,099 yuan (US$168) initial price tag
The Xiaomi Mi EBook Reader Pro has appeared in a marketing image originally posted by the Chinese manufacturer. According to the picture, the e-reader will be launched on December 15 and be priced initially at 1,099 yuan (US$168). The image does not reveal any particular specifications, but being a Pro variant of the Mi EBook Reader means users can certainly expect an upgrade over the regular model.
With that being said, the Xiaomi Mi EBook Reader came with a 24-level reading light, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB storage, an Allwinner quad-core chip clocked at 1.8 GHz, and a 212 ppi HD screen. So there is plenty there that Xiaomi could upgrade for the Mi EBook Reader Pro. It’s likely the screen’s sharpness would be a primary target for improvement; for example, Amazon’s Kindle (2019) has a screen resolution of 167 ppi compared to the Kindle Paperwhite (2018) at 300 ppi.
The full specifications of the Xiaomi Mi EBook Reader Pro should be made available upon its official launch, and it’s possible the 1,099 yuan price tag is limited to a few thousand units (“limited to 7,000” is mentioned in the Chinese text in the promo image) before the price is bumped up to 1,299 yuan. A voice assistant is expected to be onboard, and the Pro reader features a touch button underneath its display.
