Volvo has announced that it will introduce its "smallest ever SUV" in mid-2023. The EX30 is tipped to launch as an all-electric vehicle with a range of up to 298 miles, albeit with a smaller battery than that of the XC40. Nevertheless, it is also touted to deliver perks such as advanced safety in a "more enjoyable" package.

Volvo has confirmed that "something small is coming" in the form of the EX30 - nevertheless, it might be big news for those on the look-out for a new and more affordable e-vehicle with a robust brand identity.

The Swedish marque does indeed hint that it will still be capable of "big Volvo things", compact nature or not. It is tipped to be a smaller and, perhaps, lower vehicle than other models, the EX90 included, thanks to an sales-page showing the upcoming car's side-profile, reportedly posted online in advance by mistake.

The image may corroborate claims that the EX30 is in fact a re-worked Smart #1, with a (possibly 'underclocked') version of the XC40's powertrain. Furthermore, Volvo's new "smallest SUV" is now tipped to come as either an all-wheel-drive or rear-wheel-drive vehicle, with up to 408 and 238 horsepower respectively.

Similarly, the car is believed to become available with 2 battery options: 51kWh or 69kWh, with the latter rated for up to 480 kilometers (km, or ~298 miles) of range per charge. The Volvo EX30's specs are scheduled to be revealed in full during an event live-streamed from Milan on June 7, 2023 at 13:30 CET.
