MWC 2025 | ThinkPad X now ultralight with AMD Ryzen AI: Weight reduced to below one kilogram on the new Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 6

A real classic goes on diet: The ThinkPad X is traditionally the smallest variant of the enterprise laptop series. With the newest Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 6, it is now also one of the most lightweight, as Lenoov completely redeisnged the small ThinkPad. In doing so, the weight is reduced from around 1.2 kg to just 933 g or 2.05 lbs. The other news inclue the newest Intel Arrow Lake CPUs as well as AMD Ryzen AI 300 - the predecessor ThinkPad X13 Gen 5 (available from Amazon) was not available with AMD processors at all.
Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 6: New chassis much more lightweight, but also less ports
Every few years, Lenovo renovates its ThinkPad laptops with clean-sheet designs that have been designed anew from the ground up. This is the case with the ThinkPad X13 Gen 6, too, which sports a different hinge design from the predecessor. The ThinkPad laptop will only be offered in black, and the newest iteration will have to make do with one USB-A port less. With HDMI and one USB-A however, it still has the minimum acceptable port selection for a business focused device.
The removed port surely contributes to the lower weight. The chassis of the ThinkPad X13 G6 is made out of carbon fiber plastic, magnesium and aluminum. To get the most lightweight variant, customers will have to choose the X13 G6 with the smaller 41 Wh battery. The 54.7 Wh battery, which is now a user-replaceable CRU part, will lead to a slight increase of the system weight.
Now with AMD CPUs again: Lenovo ThinkPad X13 G6
As the engine of the Lenovo ThinkPad X13 G6, either Inte or AMD CPUs serve, which is noticable because the previous model was not available with AMD Ryzen chips. In Intel's case, Lenovo will offer both Arrow Lake U or Arrow Lake H. On the AMD side, it is Ryzen Pro AI 300, aka Krakan Point. The processors have up to 2 TB SSD storage and 64 GB soldered LPDDR5X memory.
In terms of the screen, Lenovo keeps to simple IPS based panels with a WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) resolution. Both available options offer 400 cd/m² of brightness and 100 percent sRGB, either with touch or without. The webcam has a resolution of 5 Mpix and the ThinkPad X13 Gen 6 is going to be offered with Sub6 5G/LTE and Wi-Fi 7 - typically for a business road-warrior.
Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 6: Pricing and availability
The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 G6 will enter the EU market in June 2025, starting at €1,400 before sales-tax. Lenovo did not specify whether these details applies to the X13 Gen 6 AMD, the X13 Gen 6 Intel or both.
