According to the latest leak from Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Huawei’s next flagship smartphone, the Mate 80 Series, could be announced as early as November. While there is a chance the release could be pushed to December, November currently seems to be the target. This timeline is supported by news that the standard model has already passed regulatory approval, suggesting that a release is not far off. The upcoming phones are expected to also launch alongside a new 2-in-1 tablet, which will reportedly be available in Moonlight Silver and Space Gray.
At the heart of the Mate 80 series will be a new Kirin system-on-a-chip, with rumors pointing to either the Kirin 9030 or Kirin 9100. This new processor is said to be built on an advanced 6nm manufacturing process and will feature ARM CPU cores. In a surprising development for a mainstream flagship, at least one model in the series is rumored to include a built-in active cooling fan, a feature that might explain some adjustments to the launch schedule. When it comes to power, the Mate 80 lineup is expected to support 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging, paired with large batteries ranging from 5,600mAh to 6,000mAh depending on the model.
You can also expect some notable design changes, particularly with the camera island. Leaks suggest a redesigned circular camera island on the back, with the Pro models featuring a new triangular arrangement for the lenses within the circle. The camera hardware is also getting an upgrade, with the Pro+ model rumored to feature a new 50MP LOFIC main sensor. Huawei has also reportedly been testing a 200MP sensor, though its specific application in the series remains unconfirmed.
The displays are also set to improve, with the standard Mate 80 possibly getting a 6.74-inch 1.5K LTPO OLED flat screen, while the Pro+ could feature a 6.88-inch quad-curved display using a new dual-layer OLED technology for better performance. The standard Mate 80 is said to come in black, white, and turquoise, with additional colors like gold, green, purple, and silver available for the Pro models.
