Tentative Marvel's Spider-Man 2 release window revealed by new leak
Insomniac's upcoming PlayStation exclusive, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, is undoubtedly one of the highly anticipated AAA titles of 2023. Sony has remained relatively tight-lipped about its launch date, stating it will launch sometime in the latter half of 2023. Tony Todd, the voice actor who plays Venom in the game, may have inadvertently revealed its tentative launch window.
In reply to a fan, Todd says Marvel's Spider-Man will be playable sometime in September. Commercials for the game will start airing in August, indicating that Sony could unveil it around that time. While the voice actor attributes the slip-up to "jet lag" in a subsequent Tweet, the damage has already been done.
A September launch makes Marvel's Spider-Man 2 the second big-budget AAA title to launch in the month alongside Starfield, which is now confirmed for a September 6 launch. However, the former is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 (its last-gen version has yet to be announced), while the latter will be playable only on PC/Xbox Series S|X.
Given their platform exclusivity, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Starfield should have something for both PS and Xbox/PC enthusiasts. It will, however, force many casual gamers to pick one or the other because both titles will be set in a massive open world and require a not-insignificant amount of time to complete.
