Samsung's Project Moohan Android XR headset could launch globally in October

After its first reveal in December 2024, Samsung’s Android XR headset codenamed Project Moohan was slated for the “near future,” expected to be late 2025. Since then, there hasn’t been any mention of its release window. Now, a new report claims to have exact dates and that Project Moohan will be unveiled in September with sales starting in October.

Samsung has collaborated with Google and Qualcomm to develop the Android XR platform, XR standing for eXtended reality which is a mix of AR (augmented reality), VR (virtual reality), and MR (mixed reality). This platform will come to users in the form of headsets and glasses. The first headset, codenamed Project Moohan, is said to launch on September 29 during an Unpacked event in Samsung’s home country of South Korea.

The information comes from Korean publication Newspim (via machine translation) and it states that the XR headset will go on sale in Korea starting October 13. It will then make its way to the global market. This suggests that Project Moohan, or whatever it ends up being called, will arrive in the US and other markets sometime later in October, possibly November.

Furthermore, the report adds that Samsung will show prototypes and teaser videos of the headset at the Unpacked event in July alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7. The company has not shared an exact date for the event yet but it is hosting Samsung Health events dedicated to runners starting July 13 in New York City. However, it is unlikely that the Unpacked event will take place on the same day.

As we move closer to July, an announcement for the Unpacked event from Samsung can be expected in the coming weeks. The new foldables, as well as Galaxy Watch8 series smartwatches and the new Galaxy Watch Ultra are expected to be unveiled.
