Earlier this year, Samsung Display introduced two new QD-OLED panel choices that gaming monitor manufacturers have been gradually adopting over the last few months. Typically, Samsung Display starts indicating that new QD-OLED panels are in the works later in the year. However, leaker Lonely City Hardware claims to have already received information about a forthcoming QD-OLED option.
To recap, Samsung Display only announced 27-inch panels this year. Even then, only its 4K and 240 Hz option that underpins recent releases like the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM (curr. $1,099.99 on Amazon) is now considered a Gen 4 QD-OLED option. By contrast, Samsung's 1440p and 500 Hz option found in multiple recent gaming monitors is actually considered to be a generation behind.
To date, Samsung Display has not dropped below a 27-inch size for its QD-OLED panels. Instead, the company also offers 32-inch, 34-inch and 49-inch options spread across multiple QD-OLED generations. According to Lonely City Hardware, one of Samsung's next QD-OLED panels could actually be a 24.5-inch option.
Writing on Weibo, the leaker alleges that this option will debut next year. For the time being, they have not received specifications. With that being said, they speculate that Samsung Display could turn to a 1440p resolution and a 240 Hz refresh rate combination, just as it did with certain Gen 3 QD-OLED panels that featured in monitors like the Gigabyte MO27Q2. Currently, it is unclear whether Samsung plans to introduce multiple new QD-OLED options, either.
