Tesla teased a big announcement for its customers in Australia coming on August 29, and, sure enough, when the date came Down Under, the surprise turned out to be the first FSD launch in right-hand drive countries.
The automaker has been posting FSD ride videos from Australia for a few months now and was waiting for the regulatory approval, which has apparently arrived, so Tesla says the first FSD RHD release is "coming incredibly soon."
The first FSD 13 Australia reviews went to both lifestyle journalists and assorted automotive influencers, but the general Tesla-owning public will be receiving the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) update Down Under at a later date.
For now, only HW4 vehicles like the Model 3 and Model Y facelifts will be getting the FSD update in Australia and New Zealand, but Tesla hinted that HW3 cars may also receive the autonomous driving software at some point.
Tesla FSD price in Australia
Tesla thought of a little compensation for all those Australian owners who paid for FSD years ago and have been waiting ever since for the promise to materialize. Unfortunately, the compensation comes in the form of an FSD price increase in Australia, from $AU8,100 to $AU10,100, quite the difference.
In order to spread the word about the FSD release in Australia and New Zealand, Tesla is offering a free trial for 30 days, the way it does in the US.
After the free FSD trial period, if the Australian Tesla owner is sufficiently impressed, they will have the option to buy the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) option for the increased price. There is no FSD subscription price set at the moment, so direct purchase is the only option to enjoy FSD in Australia for now.
