SwitchBot, a smart home gadgets maker, has launched a new compact personal security device, the SwitchBot Safety Alarm. The company’s new device is designed to improve personal security by offering an integrated safety network combining location tracking, notifications, and deterrence. Like Apple AirTag (curr. available at $64.99 on Amazon), users can also carry the gadget on a handbag, keychain, or backpack, thanks to its compact form factor. Speaking of dimensions, it measures 67 x 33 x 15 mm (2.6 x 1.2 x 0.59 inches) and weighs just 35 grams (1.2 oz).
The Safety Alarm features a built-in high-brightness LED light and a loud alarm that sounds as high as 130 dB to disorient attackers and quickly attract attention. According to the brand, the siren is loud enough to be audible from 100 meters away. Plus, it also supports a virtual phone call feature, which can trigger a fake phone call and make the user’s smartphone ring even in silent mode.
The gadget can also double as an NFC door key when used with SwitchBot Lock and Keypad. However, it’s worth noting that it’s only compatible with SwitchBot’s ecosystem. Moreover, the safety device is compatible with the SwitchBot companion app, which further allows users to send real-time alerts to family members when activated.
Speaking of powered things, it is powered by replaceable button-cell batteries, which are said to offer up to 1 year of battery life when used with Find My and SwitchBot, and up to 2 years with SwitchBot only. Other features include an IP65 water and dust ingress protection, Apple Find My support, a silent SOS mode, a lost mode, and a home arrival reminder.
Available in black, aqua, and white colorways, the SwitchBot Safety Alarm is priced at $39.99/€39.99/£39.99. Buyers can purchase the gadget directly from SwitchBot’s official website and Amazon.
