Funnplaying has updated its Retro Pixel Pocket gaming handheld, over two years after the handheld's initial release. To recap, the original model launched for $79.99 with an Allwinner A64 chipset before rising to $99.99. Additionally, Funnplaying included a 3-inch and 720p display with a 1:1 aspect ratio.
In short, the new model is the spitting image of its predecessor. With that in mind, Funnyplaying has left the Retro Pixel Pocket's display untouched. Likewise, the device still comes with a 3,000 mAh battery and just 1 GB of DDR3 RAM. However, Funnplaying has swapped the outdated Allwinner A64 for the newer and more powerful Rockchip RK3326 that coincides with a switch from Android to Linux.
Ultimately, the Rockchip RK3326 only puts the Retro Pixel Pocket on par with budget systems like the MyMini (curr. $59.99 on Amazon). Thankfully, Funnyplaying's pricing has dropped accordingly. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether Funnyplaying has upgraded the Retro Pixel Pocket in other areas too. Regardless, the updated Retro Pixel Pocket can now be picked up on Funnyplaying's website for $49.99 in a choice of colours and finishes.
