Resident Evil Requiem is eagerly awaited by fans of horror games. And this, whether for its story, which promises to be horrific, but also for various features, as is the case of the third-person view that will be available in this opus. And this addition has a quite surprising origin.
Indeed, we need to look back at Resident Evil 7, which featured a first-person camera. While this allowed many players to immerse themselves in this unique universe and be surprised by the various jump scares, not everyone appreciated this feature, as Koshi Nakanishi explains to GamesRadar:
"Looking back at Resident Evil 7’s first person perspective, I implemented that as a way to make it more immersive and more scary than ever before, which I think most you know media and players agreed it was an incredibly scary game, but it was possibly too scary. I think some people couldn’t handle it, and either couldn’t finish or didn’t even start it."
In the rest of his interview, he explains that for Resident Evil Requiem, the addition of a third-person camera was essential for everyone to be able to enjoy the game:
"I want to make sure that people can enjoy this game. So if you started the game off in first person perspective, and you’re finding it’s too much, then third person is almost a way to step slightly back from that level of horror and make it slightly easier to deal with by having the character on screen as a kind of Avatar of yourself."
And while this new game is still mysterious, and may have more surprises in store before its release, it is possible to watch a gameplay demo which shows these different points of view.
However, if this makes you want to play this game, you will need to be patient. Resident Evil Requiem is due for release on 27 February 2026 on PC, Xbox Series and PlayStation 5, if there are no delays between now and then.
