Starlink is rolling out a surprise 20% discount on monthly bills for select Residential and Residential Lite users. There’s no promo code to enter or program to opt into. Instead, eligible users are being notified directly via email.
In classic Starlink fashion, the whole thing is low on details and high on unpredictability. If you’re already a Residential customer, check your inbox—you might just be one of the lucky ones.
“As a valued Starlink customer, you’re getting 20% off your monthly plan for the next six billing cycles,” the email reads. “No action needed. Just keep enjoying your service and the discount will apply automatically.
Reddit user KingofMemes2001 was one of the first to spot the offer. The user said they’ve been a Starlink customer in Utah County for two years and are on the Residential Lite plan, which costs $80 a month. With the 20% discount, they'll only have to pay $64 per month. That works out to $96 in savings over the next six billing cycles. For the unaware, Starlink Lite is a cheaper version of the regular Residential plan and offers unlimited deprioritized data.
As spotted by PCMag, the offer doesn’t appear to be US-exclusive, with some users in Australia and Indonesia also reporting that they received the email from Starlink. So far, there have been no reports of users on Starlink Roam receiving the same discount.
This may appear baffling to those who have been recently greeted with an exorbitant fee in highly congested states just to sign up for the service. As we reported last month, in states like Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, new Residential users are being asked to cough up a $1,000 demand surcharge on top of the equipment cost. Cities like Seattle, Portland, and Redmond are among those affected.
It’s all part of how Starlink is managing its network capacity—discouraging new sign-ups with steep surcharges in highly congested areas and offering discounts where there’s still room to grow.
