Qualcomm is thought to try and steal the iPhone 17 series' thunder by launching the second-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite processor in September 2025. That event is projected to prompt Android OEMs to unleash new top-end smartphones based on the new silicon as soon as humanly possible - by the end of October 2025, in other words.
The next-gen devices are thought to include the OnePlus 14, the Xiaomi 16 series - and the Redmi K90 series, the forebears of which were unable to provide alternatives to the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro in China until November 2024.
The "K90 Pro" might not be so much of an afterthought this year, as it is now once again backed to launch as part of what might be termed the 'main' season of 8 Elite Gen 2 flagships.
The supposedly upcoming series flagship might do so with a 2K flat (entirely flat this time, perhaps) display, and is also likely to debut with a battery of at least the same size as the 6,000mAh K80 Pro.
Its accelerated launch timeline could also be good news for the Poco F7 Ultra's successor, which had to wait until March 2025 to re-brand the K80 Pro for the international market.
