Nubia has now followed Vivo in releasing a high-end smartphone with a 35 mm primary camera and optional photography kit accessory. Building on the Z70 Ultra with a larger battery, the Nubia Z70S Ultra also features upgraded cameras to rival the best flagships around.

Vivo has only just released the X200 Ultra with a 35 mm primary camera and a photography kit accessory with an innovative zoom camera lens. Nonetheless, Nubia has responded in kind with the Z70S Ultra, which replaces last November's Z70 Ultra (curr. $769 on Amazon).

As expected, the Z70S Ultra builds on its predecessor's design by retaining its 6.85-inch AMOLED display and under-panel front-facing camera. According to Nubia, the large panel still outputs at 2,688 x 1,216 pixels with a 144 Hz refresh rate and 2,000 nits peak brightness, too. However, Nubia has switched from Longxi Glass Gen 2 to Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection.

Also, Nubia has brought across the Snapdragon 8 Elite (SM8750-AB) from last year's model, as well as 80 W wired charging. Likewise, Nubia continues to certify its latest high-end smartphone to IP69 levels of ingress protection. On top of that, the Z70S Ultra matches its predecessor with up to 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.

The Z70S Ultra gains a 7% battery capacity bump to 6,600 mAh though, despite there being no weight change from 228 g. Seemingly, the main differences between the two devices centre on the newer device's camera hardware. For example, the switch from f/2.5 to f/2.0 apertures allows the 16 MP front-facing camera to capture more light in the Z70S Ultra than it can in the Z70 Ultra.

Meanwhile, the Z70S Ultra packs a 50 MP primary camera that features a 35 mm equivalent focal length and a 1/1.3-inch optical format. The handset also utilises a 64 MP telephoto camera with an f/2.48 aperture and a 1/2-inch optical format, along with a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera that supports macro photography. Arguably a star of the show is Nubia's optional photography kit, which supports 67 mm filters and 135 mm or 400 mm clip-on lenses.

The Nubia Z70S Ultra starts in China with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for CNY 4,099 (~$562). By contrast, the device's 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage variant comes in at CNY 6,299 (~$863); Nubia charges another CNY 899 (~$123) for its photography kit too. The company has not yet confirmed whether the Z70S Ultra will be available globally.
