Pocket AIR Mini: Ayaneo confirms global launch for new compact gaming handheld with affordable pricing
Ayaneo is due to release its latest Android-backed gaming handheld for a while yet. Nonetheless, the company has shared more details about the Pocket AIR Mini's global launch following yesterday's official announcement. Incidentally, Anbernic has just started selling the RG476H, a similar option that shares its chipset with the recent RG Slide (curr. $199 on Amazon).
To recap, Ayaneo revealed that a MediaTek Helio G90T chipset would be joining the 4.2-inch, 960p and 4:3 IPS display that was already been confirmed. Additionally, the Pocket AIR Mini features a 4,500 mAh battery backed by 18 W wired charging, as well as Hall effect joysticks and triggers. On top of that, the Helio G90T provides Bluetooth 5.0 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi support, which Ayaneo complements with up to 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.
Previously, Ayaneo had indicated that the Pocket AIR Mini would start at CNY 499 (~$70) with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. Surprisingly, this pricing will translate to the handheld's global release too, albeit with a caveat. As the image below shows, the Pocket AIR Mini will start at $69.99 globally, but only during a non-descript 'limited-time offer'. If the device's Chinese launch is anything to go by, this pricing will change to $74.99 after Ayaneo sells through the first 1,000 units.
Eventually, the Pocket AIR Mini will retail for $89.99. Meanwhile, the device's 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage variant will start life at $79.99 before jumping to $84.99 and then to $99.99. At the time of writing, Ayaneo hopes to open pre-orders in mid-October on its website, rather than on a crowdfunding platform like the recent Pocket DS.
