Anbernic has finally released the RG Slide after a wave of teasers. For context, the RG Slide is the second gaming handheld that the company has started selling this month, with the other being the much cheaper RG35XX Pro. Ultimately, the RG35XX Pro builds on existing RG35XX models with a pair of joysticks and a slightly taller housing.
By contrast, the RG Slide uses the RG556 (curr. $229.99 on Amazon) as its basis. To that end, Anbernic has re-used the Unisoc T820 platform and 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, as well as a 128 GB of UFS 2.2 flash storage upon which it pre-installs Android 13. Unfortunately, the company has not yet confirmed whether the RG Slide will receive Android 14, which ships with the recent RG557.
The RG Slide comes with a 5,000 mAh battery and a 4:3 display that measures 4.7-inches diagonally. For reference, the compact display outputs at 1,280 x 960 pixels with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 500 nits peak brightness, unlike many of its peers. Arguably, the biggest selling point of the RG Slide is its nostalgic sliding form factor that hides its controls when not in use.
Please note that the RG Slide weighs 379 g despite its 154 x 90 x 26 mm dimensions. The RG Slide currently starts at $179.99 including a $10 launch discount. While this $10 discount applies across all SKUs and its launch colours, Anbernic will remove it on June 23.
