Last week, a modder shared a playable GTA 6 map as a mod in GTA V which gave people a hint at what to expect from the highly anticipated upcoming game. Now, the modder has shared that lawyers from Take-Two Interactive, owners of Rockstar Games, have copyright claimed and removed the video from YouTube, leading him to remove the download links for his mod. Even when the mod was released, the community felt that it was only a matter of time before the company took it down.
Dark Space, the modder who used information from the official trailer, leaks, and speculation to create what he called “Project Vice,” a playable map of GTA 6 for GTA V, shared the unfortunate news on his YouTube channel. The video shows the copyright claim he received from YouTube that was initiated by Take-Two Interactive on his video titled, “I Finally Made A Playable GTA 6 Map in FiveM and Single Player.”
Interestingly, the lawyers from Take-Two did not bother emailing Dark Space about taking the video down, which is typically how companies approach creators in similar situations. YouTube told Dark Space that the video had been taken down and that he now has one copyright strike, adding that multiple strikes will lead to the termination of his channel.
Following the strike, the modder also removed download links to his mod to get ahead of Take-Two and avoid another strike. It could be that the modded GTA 6 map was a little too accurate and that the company did not want gamers getting a preview of what’s to come, before the official launch.
GTA 6 is scheduled for fall this year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. PC gamers will likely get to experience the game late next year if there are no delays.
