Oppo Watch 5 Pro to launch with 4 nm chipset, LTPO AMOLED display and larger battery than predecessor
Digital Chat Station has revealed more information about the Oppo Watch 5 Pro, likely one of two premium smartwatches released by the company later this year. To recap, the leaker shared details about both smartwatches roughly two months ago, which we have covered separately. While a release date for either smartwatch remains unknown for now, Digital Chat Station seems to have obtained hardware details about the Watch 5 Pro.
Specifically, the leaker claims that Oppo uses an unspecified ARM SoC, described as a 4 nm chip based around a 'low-power dual platform'. In other words, it appears that Oppo will return to the Snapdragon W5 Plus Gen 1 that it already uses in the Watch 3 series. Although that would seem odd, Qualcomm has not announced Gen 2 versions of its Snapdragon W5 platform yet. As such, the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and Snapdragon W5 Plus Gen 1 remain Qualcomm's latest flagship smartwatch chipsets.
According to the same leaker, the Watch 5 Pro will retain its predecessor's display too, a rectangular AMOLED panel with an LTPO backplane and curved glass atop for added protection. Reputedly, Oppo will also offer the Watch 5 Pro with a 570 mAh battery, which represents a 3.6% increase over the 550 mAh battery in last year's model. Similarly, Oppo's next flagship smartwatch will support LTE connectivity through an eSIM, another feature shared with the Watch 3 Pro. Thus, it seems that the Watch 5 Pro will be a minor update over last year's model, which we imagine will extend to the regular Watch 5 as well.
