OPPO has been tipped to release a second-gen foldable flagship Android smartphone with the potential advantage of reduced mass compared to its predecessor. Now, according to a famous leaker, it will be at least 13% lighter, in fact, possibly outdoing even a top-end iPhone in this regard. Should this new tip prove accurate, it could be a major win for the "Find N2" in its category.

Foldable smartphones or phablets might be the future (according to Samsung, anyway); however, they are still saddled with the drawback of their typical total mass, easily outweighing their traditional candy-bar counterparts. This issue might seem unavoidable, given that the whole concept does after all involve 2 fully-equipped screen panels held together with an often component-heavy hinge.

However, OPPO, a brand that may have already solved another foldable-world problem in just 1 generation, is thought to be working on this one, too. According to the famous leaker Ice Universe, the OEM has brought the weight of the "Find N2" down to 240 grams (g) - or possibly even less.

This might be "great progress" indeed, especially given the 275g buik of the original Find N. Its putative successor might still find itself at the heavyweight end of the smartphone spectrum; then again, the change might even tip the scales in its favor when compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max and its stainless-steel frame.

Ice Universe speculates about the use of "new materials" in the course of achieving this rumored upgrade - which, if true, are hopefully none that can have a negative impact on durability.

In other OPPO foldable news, the N2 has been rumored to launch with the same rear cameras as the "OnePlus 11" - then again, the leaker responsible for this tip, Digital Chat Station, revoked this prediction shortly after posting it to Weibo.
