The launch of the Nothing Phone (3) is still a few weeks away. Nonetheless, the company continues to offer up details about the device ahead of time. For example, it revealed last week that the Phone (3) will be generally available in North America without Nothing's 'Beta Programs' of the past.
Now, it has confirmed that the Phone (3) will ship with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 that Qualcomm announced in April. Missing Qualcomm's Oryon CPU cores, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 combines ARM Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720 CPU cores to deliver over 30% faster CPU performance compared to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Likewise, Qualcomm boasted that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 will provide 49% GPU gains. However, Carl Pei compares the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 against the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 inside the Phone (2):
Compared to Phone (2) it's going to be 36% faster on CPU, 88% stronger on GPU, and 60% stronger on the NPU.
Incidentally, Nothing's decision to go with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 will see the Phone (3) arriving with the same silicon as the forthcoming Poco F7. While we have not reviewed the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 yet, early benchmarks point to it keeping pace with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 that underpins handsets from the Galaxy S24 Ultra to the newer Poco F7 Pro (curr. $599.99 on Amazon).
Given rumours of a $799 starting price, the Nothing Phone (3) may be a relatively expensive way to obtain a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Regardless, it seems that the device could maintain Nothing's well-known Glyph interface despite recent rumours suggesting otherwise. Nothing will fully unveil the Phone (3) on July 1.
