Google continues its tradition and assigns animal codenames to Pixel smartphones, which serve as internal designations for these devices until their final product names are determined. Following birds (Pixel 6), cats (Pixel 7), dogs (Pixel 8), reptiles (Pixel 9, from $499 on Amazon), horses (Pixel 10), and bears (Pixel 11), Google is reportedly using codenames based on primates for the Pixel 12 series. According to the leaker Mystic Leaks, the Pixel 12 series will consist of the following four models:
- Google Pixel 12 – Galago
- Google Pixel 12 Pro – Sasquatch
- Google Pixel 12 Pro XL – Silverback
- Google Pixel 12 Pro Fold – Capuchin
While three of the four smartphones have codenames based on real animals, Google is reportedly referring to a mythical creature with the Pixel 12 Pro. If the leaker's information is correct, the Pixel 12 series will consist of four handsets, just like the Pixel 9 series: a base model, two Pro variants in different sizes and the foldable flagship.
The good news is that Google apparently plans to continue offering a relatively compact flagship phone in the future. The Google Pixel 12 is expected to launch in the summer of 2027. Apart from these codenames, hardly any details about the Pixel 12 and Pixel 12 Pro are known at this point, and even the extensive Tensor leak from last year ended with the Pixel 11. In any case, the Pixel 10 will hit the market first and is slated for an official reveal on August 20.
