Intel's ultra-thin notebook chips line-up for the coming year
Intel Calpella, Montevina, Arrandale, and Pinetrail processors on its way
Intel, the world leader in silicon innovation, plans to release three new 32nm dual-core CPUs for ultra thin notebooks in the 1st half of 2010. Based on the Calpella platform, the Arrandale processors to be released are:
- 1.06GHz Core i7-620UM
- 1.06GHz Core i5-520UM
- 1.2GHz Core i7-640UM
The Core i7 models would support Hyperthreading. On bulk buying they will cost $278, $241, and $305 respectively. For the last quarter of ’09, Intel plans to use Pentium SU4100 and SU2300, Core 2 Duo SU9600, SU9400 and SU7300 and single-core Celeron 743 CPUs (Montevina platform) in the ultra-thin notebook segment.
The Arrandale processors would be aimed at high to mid-range ultraportable markets. These processors would replace the current 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo SU9600 in first quarter of 2010.
For the third quarter of 2010, Intel plans to launch processors for mid range and entry level market. The mid range segment will get two Calpella platform-based CPUs and the entry level ones will get Montevina and Calpella-based CPUs.
At the same time, Intel will phase out Core 2 Solo SU3500, SU2300 and SU7300 CPUs. It will also launch an upgraded single-core Celeron CPU, which will have the same price as the existing Celeron 743, but with enhanced performance.
Notebooks equipped with the Pine Trail-M platform will get a price tag of $500 in the first half of 2010.
For the desktop segment, it is assumed that Intel will ship its first 32nm processors in January. The processors to be launched are Core i5-661 and Core i5-670 chips, priced between $176 and $284 each in batches of 1,000.
