The T900 is being sold directly at Shopfujitsu.com with a host of configuration options
Last December we reported the appearance of Fujitsu's Lifebook T900 in an FCC report (codename 'Souther'), which was an unknown Fujitsu model at the time. We suspected that if Fujitsu was planning to release a new tablet PC, it would do so early this year. Well Fujitsu has done just that: the T900 convertible tablet PC is available to buy from Shopfujitsu.com now, with prices starting at $1889.
The T900 is a fully-customizable 13.3” tablet PC, and it comes with a 2.4GHz/2.93GHz Intel Core i5-520M vPro processor, which contains Intel's HD Graphics GPU; 2GB of DDR3 SDRAM; a WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n adaptor; a Bluetooth v2.1 adaptor; a modular Dual-Layer Super-Multi DVD Writer; and an integrated webcam with dual digital array microphones. The i5-520M vPro is a powerful processor, therefore the T900 should be able to handle most tasks with ease. Take a look at our dedicated i5-520M page for more information about Intel's new processor.
Unfortunately Intel's integrated GPUs are seldom powerful, and the Mobile Intel HD Graphics GPU is no exception. Whilst it does offer an improvement over Intel's GMA 4500MHD, it probably won't beat Nvidia's GeForce 9400M (ION) GPU. However it should be powerful enough to manage most internet content on the T900's 13.3" WXGA (1280 x 800) LCD, and it supports a resolution of up to 1600 x 1200 on an external monitor, although sadly, there is no HDMI port. On a more positive note, the power-saving combination of a processor and a GPU in one package is intended for use inside mobile machines such as the T900, consequently the T900 has a reasonable operating time of 5 hours whilst running on its default 6 cell battery.
For those wishing to configure the T900 before considering buying one, Fujitsu's online store enables customers to upgrade almost every aspect of the machine. The processor can be upgraded to an Intel Core i7-620M vPro and the memory can be increased to 8GB (DDR3 SDRAM). The entry-level model is fitted with an active digitizer display (for use with a stylus), and for an additional $100, it can be fitted with a dual digitizer display (capacitive multi-touch screen and stylus). Another useful upgrade option is a second hard drive or a 6 cell bay battery for use with the T900's bay. Whilst using the bay battery the T900 should run for up to 10.5 hours.
Here are the specifications of the entry-level model alongside its various upgrade options:-
