Panasonic unveils the Toughbook H1 tablet PC
The Toughbook goes more portable
Panasonic is known for its line of rugged, war-ready, off-terrain notebooks called the Toughbooks. Although these are little on the expensive side, but again, they are aimed at a niche market where these kinds of features are absolutely vital.
Now the Toughbook becomes much smaller but retains its signature ruggedness in the form of the brand-new Toughbook H1 Field – as reported by Softpedia. This one attempts to bring the right amount of form factor, features and durability to maximize the productivity of a user constantly on move. This tablet PC features a 10.4-inch XGA sunlight-viewable 500nit dual-touch LCD and is powered by an Intel Atom Z540 processor with a clocking speed of 1.86GHz. It comes with 2GB of built-in memory and a 64GB Solid State Drive that should be a very useful component in the ruggedness feature. The SSD, being a solid drive unlike the magnetic HDD, keeps your data safer even in tough conditions. It complements the tough magnesium alloy chassis encased in polycarbonate.
Connectivity is taken care of by the WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. Panasonic also throws in an integrated Gobi 2000 mobile broadband, GPS receiver, 2D barcode reader, 2MP camera, RFID reader, fingerprint reader, SmartCard reader and twin, hot-swappable battery – as mentioned by Softpedia.
The 3.4lbs (1.5kg) machine has a dimension of 10.4-inch (L) x 10.6-inch (W) x 1.3-inch (at the thinnest part). The H1 complies with MIL-STD-810G and IP65 certification. It comes with Windows 7 pre-installed but one can downgrade to XP.
