Netbooks fail 20% more likely than laptops
They are also likely to last shorter
Netbooks are the miniature computers generally meant for carrying around easily, while staying connected. This asks for great portability, mobility and connectivity which the netbooks offer to a great extent. But there’s one downsize - being much cheaper than the full-scale laptops, the quality can be often compromised.
Now, we have some data to prove it - SquareTrade, an independent US warranty provider, analyzed more than 30,000 laptops covered by its own warranties, and found out that netbooks have 20% more probability of failing in their first year. The netbooks malfunction 5.8% times in the first year, compared to 4.7% failure rate of the laptops.
SquareTrade found out that more than one fifth of the laptops generally last less than five years. Although netbooks have not been around for more than three years, looking at the above statistics they will find it tough to last three years.
The research revealed another interesting fact - Asus, Toshiba and Sony show better durability than Apple. Macs have a 17.4% malfunction rate over three years, compared to Asus who has a 15.6% failure rate.
The worst performer as long as durability is concerned will have to be HP, which has a malfunction rate of 25.6% over three years.
