The netbook has an AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 processor and the RS780MN chipset

Asus has launched a new page on its website, Asus.com, which details its new netbook, the Eee PC 1201T Seashell. Asus has already released another netbook in the 1201 line, namely the 1201N, which is an Intel-based system. However, the 1201T contains a 1.6GHz AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 processor and an ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated graphics adaptor.

AMD's MV-40 processor is designed for ultrathin notebooks, and has a wattage of 15W, making it well suited to the power conservation requirements of netbook users. The 1201T is quite small and portable, weighing only 1.46kg. It has a moderate battery life of up to 6 hours, when fitted with a 6 cell battery. The ATI Radeon HD 3200 offers HD video playback capabilities, and Asus has fitted the 1201T with a 12.1” 16:9 HD (1366 x 768) display. Asus claims that through the use of the pre-installed application ArcSoft SlimHD, users can watch 1080p HD video. The chiclet keyboard is almost as wide as the netbook (296mm), which should make typing quite comfortable.

Unfortunately Asus hasn't provided an HDMI port on the 1201T. This would have been a nice addition to a netbook that is capable of playing HD video. Here are the specifications, taken from the product's webpage:-

Asus has not confirmed a release date or price for the 1201T, although its 1201N is available for pre-order for $499.99 from Amazon.com, and it will be released on the 15th of January, next year. Due to their similar specifications, it would be reasonable to expect that the 1201T will cost roughly the same as the 1201N, or perhaps cheaper, due to its use of AMD's technology.
