The M780 is the latest addition to Toshiba’s M Series

Toshiba will soon start selling its new “subnotevertible” mini-laptop. The Portege M780 will reportedly offer powerful CPU and also enhanced portability as it is small and light.

Configuration

The latest member of Toshiba’s M line-up will allegedly be powered by Intel’s new 2010 Core processors (i3 or i5). The M780 can be used both as a regular laptop and as a Tablet PC because of its rotating display. It will come with a 12.1-inch HD TruBriteTouch LED backlight display with a maximum resolution of 1280-by-800 pixels. The convertible Tablet PC will house up to 8GB of internal DDR3 1066MHz memory and a choice of either a mechanical hard drive with a 3D accelerometer (for data protection) or an SSD. The standard configuration also includes a DVD Super-Multi double layer optical drive.

Connectivity

Toshiba’s latest Portege sports both Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR modules. In addition, there are two USB 2.0 Sleep-and-Charge ports, an eSATA and a VGA output. Customers can also take advantage of the built-in HD web camera for video conferencing.

Other specs/Availability

The Portege M780 will run a pre-installed copy of Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system. Weighing just 2kg (≈4.4lbs), the convertible notebook packs a water-resistant keyboard and a fingerprint reader.

The new Tablet PC will supposedly be available to the European customers in the second quarter of 2010.
