Chrome OS can make Win7 netbooks better
The new Google OS is due to arrive next year and Microsoft might need to change its strategy
Reportedly, Microsoft might need to “reshape” their strategy and allow netbooks to be more powerful with the new OS from Google coming in about a year from now.
In 2010 customers will have the choice to purchase a device with a very fast Chrome OS, according to Google. That inevitably leads to a logical question. What will Microsoft do about it?
Currently users buy sub-$400 netbooks but do not enjoy the capabilities of Windows 7 Starter Edition. They are unable to play DVDs or customize their desktops with Aero features. Netbooks are limited with not so powerful Atom processors and 1GB of memory.
The monetary value, however, is crucial when it comes to buying a new ultraportable computer.
Allegedly, Microsoft deliberately limits netbook performance in order to profit from manufacturers selling the more expensive Win 7 notebooks. But with the new player in town, things might change because even though Chrome OS might not be able to do all those things Windows 7 is capable of, it could still deliver more valuable netbook experience for the same amount of money.
Microsoft will have to adequately address the matter. Windows 7 netbooks should not be limited and manufacturer should be given the chance to create much better devices. Supposedly, this is the only way Win 7 can challenge the new Chrome OS.
