Kingston adds TRIM support and launches second-generation SSDNow V Series drives

The new product is targeted toward entry-level/first-time SSD users

Overview

Kingston has introduced a next-generation SSDNow V set which is expected to start shipping next week. The upgrade Bundle includes a solid-state drive with capacities of 30GB, 64GB and 128GB. In addition, cloning software, CD with installation information and USB SATA external enclosure are included in the kit.

The SSDs can operate in temperatures from zero degrees Celsius to seventy degrees Celsius. Depending on what drive you order, the read and write speeds are the following:

·         30GB up to 180MB/sec read, 50MB/sec write

·         64GB up to 200MB/sec read, 110MB/sec write

·         128GB up to 200MB/sec read, 160MB/sec write

The Kingston SSDNow V Series uses NAND flash memory components and supports TRIM.

Why is the addition of TRIM important?

The fact that Kingston’s second-generation of SSDNow V Series features TRIM support allegedly ensures the long-term functional stability of the solid-state drive. This matters when users delete files and the OS would pass the information about the affected blocks on to the SSD controller.  In that way the controller “knows” which data blocks are to be written to.

Pricing

Customers can order stand-alone SSDs or Bundle kits. According to Kingston, the installation procedure is not complicated.
