Jolicloud about to enter Pre-Beta, will restrict participation

Joicloud is one of the most famous netbook operating systems

The popularity of the netbooks has prompted the OS players to the development of new operating systems that are tailor-made for these tiny machines. Joilicloud is an OS built on top of Linux kernel. After the success of the recently launched Alpha2c, Jolicloud is now preparing to enter the pre-Beta stage, and considering restricting the amount of invitations sent. The new version is even more stable than the earlier ones. It has extended compatibility to almost all the netbooks including the ones with GMA500 graphics card. Only some machines running VIA C7M or using the old AMD GEODE are not compatible yet.

The issue with GMA500 in many Linux Oss is that the codes were never known. So it’s always going to be hard to build drivers that support this combination. Joicloud invented a method that work directly on integrating the original Ubuntu v8.04 binaries into the newer Jolicloud kernel.

So what’s new in the pre-beta? First the Jolicloud Express, which is the new Windows installer, launches the Installer interface on your Windows netbook and comes with easy wizard-style installing instructions. Having said that, you still have the option of installing it the old way – using the ISO or an IMG and a USB key. The interesting thing is Jolicloud installs alongwith Windows, keeping the Windows data safe. I’m not sure whether the Express will have option to format Windows. It installs just like another program, removable from Add/Remove Programs option.

The pre-Beta UI should be even simpler and sleeker than Alpha, it’s still in development though. Also it’s going to be an OS that’ll be even more Atom-optimized. This framework should enable strong improvements in boot speed and video management, with about 175 patches and updates included.

The Beta version will support HTML5. There will also be a feature that’ll let the user control their machine via Twitter…this is weird!
