XP only for low cost notebooks

After June 30th, Windows XP will only be available for low-cost notebooks

Windows XP won’t be available for every computer after June 30th, but low-cost notebooks still can be equipped with the operating system. Microsoft presented hardware restrictions for those notebooks.

If the laptop wants to use Windows XP, then its display size must not be bigger than 10.2” and its maximum hard disk size is 80 GB. Furthermore, its RAM is limited to 1 GB and except from VIA C7 processors and Intel Atom CPU’s, there are only single core processors with 1 GHz allowed.

Touch screen displays are not allowed as well. Those hardware limitations are made by Microsoft and should avoid that low cost notebooks become competitors to more expensive Vista laptops.
