Samsung has recently introduced the R720 multimedia laptop which is an extension to the R-series of notebooks. Last year the company had launched the R710 and now, its successor, the R720 is all set to hit the streets of UK in July.

Samsung R720 has a 17.3-inch LED backlit screen which has an aspect ratio of 16:9. It means that the films made in the 16:9 format will look great and users won’t get any of those annoying black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. This notebook is being touted as a multimedia notebook which is affordable. It is powered by Intel Centrino 2 processor with support for 1080p video playback and an optional Blu-ray disc drive. The graphics on this device are provided by ATI's Mobility Radeon HD4650 GPU which is a mid-range GPU that provides either 512MB or 1GB of DDR3 virtual memory. Moreover, it supports DirectX 10 and Shader model 4.1. This means that the users can play most of the games being released today on reasonable settings.

The sound is provided by a 4-Watt stereo speaker, with 3D SRS (Sound Retrieval System) Audio, surround sound, and a dedicated subwoofer. This model comes with four USB 2.0 ports one of which is a chargeable USB Port. This means that it can be used for charging external devices without the need to start the notebook. There is also USB/eSATA combo Port. There is also a full-sized keyboard with numeric keyboard. The exact pricing and details have not been disclosed by the company but it is expected to ship in the UK at a price of £599.
