Hitachi creates new notebook HDD with built-in encryption

The Hitachi Travelstar 7K320 is a SATA HD with 320 GB disk space and can be equipped with encryption as well.
The new Hitachi Travelstar 7K320 offers a disk size of 320 GB and spins with 7.200 RPM. The power consumption of the disk is on the same level like a 5.400 RPM HDD, because it only needs 0.8 watts in idle mode and 1.8 watts while writing or reading.
Furthermore, the hard disk can be equipped with a bulk data encryption (SATA 1.5 GBit/sec) and a model which is made for 24-h usage is also available.
The Travelstar 7K320 with 320 GB costs $ 220 and Hitachi wants to develop disks with 250, 160, 120 and 80 GB too. The hard disk for non stop operation will be available in the 3rd quarter of this year.
