Acer’s Aspire 1420P convertible netbook is currently being sold in France and Germany, for 499 euros (~$676). Blogee.net spotted the netbook on Ruedecommerce.fr, where it is available in ‘Diamond black’; a ‘Sapphire Blue’ version is available on Notebook.de. Both e-tailers are selling the same model: 1420P-233G52N, which unfortunately, doesn’t have 3G.
The 1420P has an 11.6” HD (1366 x 768) multi-touch screen, supporting both a stylus, and finger movements. The display is rotatable and Asus has ensured that the notebook supports image auto rotation. It’s a light machine, weighing just 1.72kg and it should last for up to 8 hours whilst running on its 6 cell battery.
The machine is equipped with a 1.2GHz Intel Celeron Dual Core SU2300 processor, which is ranked 188 on our processor benchmark list. The system is based upon Intel’s GS45 chipset, which means the 1420P uses the Intel GMA 4500MHD GPU. This graphics card handles HD content and basic gaming with relative ease, but more demanding tasks strain it; consequently, it’s ranked 168 in our graphics card benchmark list. In terms of networking, the 1420P supports WLAN 802.11b/g/Draft-N and Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR. 3G is a listed feature on Acer’s US product page, but the two aforementioned e-tailers don’t appear to offer 3G models, and Acer has remained quiet about this machine’s European release, and it is likely to launch the product in the US. Liliputing.com speculates that the 1420 could cost as little as $500 if it were released in the US market. This kind of price seems likely, because the Aspire 1410 11.6” netbook costs only $399.99 at Amazon.com.
