New Atom CPU and new netbooks
Intel wants to bring a new version of its Atom processor on the market in this year.
The Internet news site Digitimes report, that Intel will develop a new Atom processor soon. This CPU will come on the market somewhere between the second an third quarter of 2009 and there will also be netbooks which get equipped with this processor.
The new Intel Atom CPU is called N280 and it provides a front side bus of 667 MHz and 1.66 GHz. Intel also made a new chipset for its N280 and it is called GN40 (hd video support is rumored but also only DX9 support, so perhaps a cut down 4500M).
The new processor is more powerful than its predecessor N270, but it also is more expensive. The manufacturers have to pay about $ 60 - $ 64 (~€ 47 - € 50) instead of $ 46 for one piece.
As soon as the processor gets released there will also get some new netbooks on the market. One of them is the Asus Eee PC 1004DN and Acer will also present one for sure.
