New Xiaomi memory extension details add Redmi Note 8 and POCO X3 GT to the eligible device list and reveal how much extra RAM can be utilized
Xiaomi’s memory extension feature is to be made available to a wider group of devices according to information provided by Kacper Skrzypek. While we already reported on eligible phones such as the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G (rebranded as the POCO X3 GT outside of China) and Xiaomi Mi 10 series, it appears the useful tool will be available for older and cheaper devices as well. The tech tipster offers these details for the time being:
Devices already supported
- Redmi Note 8, Redmi 9T, Redmi Note 9 5G, Redmi Note 9T, Redmi Note 10 Pro
- POCO X3 GT
- All Snapdragon 888/870/865 smartphones (Mi 10 series, Mi 11 series, POCO F3, etc.) except the Mi Mix Fold
Devices that may be supported in future

- Xiaomi Mi Mix 4, Mi 11 Lite NE
- Future Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO releases
On top of these details, the same source also gave some indication of how the memory extension feature will allocate available storage space to be used as virtual RAM. Devices that come with RAM/storage configurations of 3 GB + 64 GB, 4 GB + 64 GB, or 6 GB + 64 GB can be extended by a further 1 GB. Phones that have 4 GB + 128 GB or 6 GB + 128 GB can be treated to up to 2 GB of virtual RAM, while “high devices” may be able to utilize up to an additional 3 GB with the memory extension tool.
The list can be changed in the future, it depends on MIUI changes. "High devices" can extend the RAM by 3 GB, 3/64, 4/64, and 6/64 by 1 GB, 4/128, and 6/128 by 2 GB (according to one of the system files)
